I had intentions of posting some of my favorite romances around Valentine's Day, but life happened instead and I haven't posted a reading list since January, but I have been reading! I have some really good new books to share.
I am currently reading Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson and thus far it is so-o-o good. It is a Young Adult title that guarantees fans of mystery, suspense, realistic fiction and/or historical fiction will not be disappointed. This talented author hooks you in the first few pages. The setting is a prestigious boarding school where in 1936 the famous founder's wife and daughter were kidnapped. The crimes that were committed in 1936 are still unsolved. A present day student, just happens to be a "True Crime" enthusiast set on finding clues and answers.
Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate is a book that will affect you deeply. It is a fictional title based on the real Tennessee Children's Home that was involved in kidnappings, illegal adoptions and murder of children in the 1920's until 1950. Georgia Tann operated the orphanage and was responsible for kidnapping and selling many children to wealthy families. This is a fictional story of one family that was forced to endure the horrors of life in the Tennessee Children's Home. This is a story of cruelty, pain and sorrow, but also a story of strength, love and healing. This is one of the most impactful books that I have read in quite a while. This one is a MUST read!
I Believe in a Thing Called Love by Maureen Goo is YA romance. This book is charming, funny and heart-warming. It's also suitable for younger teens.
The Love Letters of Abelard and Lily by Laura Creedle, another Young Adult romance, but this one is not your typical teen romance. Abelard and Lily are not your normal teens. Both characters are highly intelligent, but struggle with everyday life. Abelard is mildly autistic and Lily is severely ADHD and she hates the way the medicine makes her feel. This unlikely romance sheds light on the real life struggles of teens with these disabilities. It is a great read for teens, parents, grandparents, and teachers!
Cat's Colors by Jane Cabrera is a delightful read aloud for your preschooler that features beautifully illustrated pages in the search for Cat's favorite color.
